Superkids Reading
Listen to the Z song before you begin today.
Ask children to turn to pages 24–25 in their Superkid's Workbook. Explain that the pictures show things that happened in the Superkids’ Club stories, but the pictures need to be put in the right order.. Tell children to cut along the pink and gray lines to separate the picture. Have Child cut along the blue lines to separate the two color strips and the zipper. Tell them to set aside the two color strips and the zipper to use later. Cut out pictures and glue them in order. Help children to use the words first, next,, and last in talking about where to place their pictures before gluing them down.
1st row: Superkids cleaning the bus, the decorated bus. 2nd row: The Wagwags swimming, wet Wagwags smiling. 3rd row: Alf cutting up the TV box, Alf in the tent. Ask children to describe the first picture at the top of page 24. (a dirty bus) Have them find the two pictures they cut out that show the dirty bus. Ask what the Superkids did to the dirty bus after they found it. (They cleaned it.) Tell them to put the picture of the Superkids cleaning up the bus in the box next to the picture of the dirty bus. Ask what the Superkids did next after they cleaned the bus. (They decorated it.) Have children put the picture of the decorated bus in the box next to the picture of the Superkids cleaning the bus.
Follow this procedure to help children put the other pictures in order. Then have children glue the pictures in place. Help children use the words first, next, and last in their summaries
Next, have children make the letter card for Z.
Give your child a piece of heavyweight paper and glue. Tell children to take out the green and pink strips and the zipper they cut out from page 25. Give children step-by-step instructions for making the letter card, using the sequence words first, next, and last. On the paper, children should first place and glue down the green strip at the top part of the z, next the zipper as the slanted part of the z, and last the pink strip as the bottom part of the z. When they finish, have them trace their z with a finger as they say “zip, zip, zipper!”
